If you have recently discovered that you are not alone in your own home, you may be searching desperately for a way to rid your home of the various pests that have invaded it. Insects and other common household pests can not only make your home unpleasant to live in, they can also present a clear danger to your health and the health of your loved ones. Some pests can also cause damage to your home that can be expensive to repair. Let's look at how to get rid of these ugly buggers once and for all. The most common pests include:
-Roaches. Nothing sends a shiver up your spine like a swiftly moving cockroach. These nasty critters can invade even the cleanest of homes, often hitching a ride into the home via a grocery bag or cardboard box, or even from items that are purchased at yard sales or thrift stores. Roaches are particularly attracted to paper and glue, and they love to lay their eggs inside paper bags and boxes. While a big infestation of roaches may require an expert exterminator, you can also use a very effective product called Combat Roach Killing Gel which is very appealing to roaches to get rid of this nasty problem. They eat it and carry it back to their nests where they die. The nesting roaches feast on their corpses (cannibalistic little creeps) and then they consume the poison, creating a chain reaction that literally eradicates smaller roach populations. - Moths. Pesky moths can wreak havoc on your clothing and other items, like linens. Moths love cloth, and they will eat holes through everything in your wardrobe if left unchecked. You can deter moths by using cedar blocks or dried lavender sachets in your closets. Moth balls are an age-old moth deterrent, but the stench of these balls is a big drawback to their use. - Ants. Ants can be a huge pest if you allow them to get a foothold in the home. Some commercial ant insecticides are quite good, but they may not be as effective as homemade ant repellents. Cinnamon, crushed red pepper, or a mix of talcum powder and salt can be used as a barrier to wherever the ants are entering the home (if you can determine this). However, if your home has been invaded by carpenter ants, you may need to call out an exterminator. - Mice. Mouse traps are definitely the most effective way to get rid of mice, and they are some very humane traps on the market today. The best bait for a mouse trap is peanut butter or gumdrops, not the cheese that is legendarily recommended. There are also D-Con products that work as a bait poison; the mouse eats the D-Con pellets and dies subsequently, but that just means that you'll have a dead mouse laying around somewhere in the home or in the walls of the home. Finding where the mouse entered the house is as important as getting rid of it, as where one got in, more have likely or will likely follow. Seal the spot permanently, or use aluminum foil as a temporary fix - mice can't tolerate chewing through the metal to re-enter, so they'll just give up. Follow this link for more information.
